Back2Roots Players Howto - Setting up audio players:
This Howto explains how to setup the audio players referred to in our Music and Radio sections.
The goal of this document is to mask out a lot of possible problems, follow these instructions and things should work fine. Please install the players in the order they are described below:
WinAmp 2, DeliPlayer 2, ModPlug Plugin

WinAmp 2 - introduction:
WinAmp 2 is a media player which started it's career as one of the first free Win32 MP3 players, but got enhanced to support other formats too due to its extensibility by plugins. The full installation comes with a module player plugin based on a modified version of the libmikmod replay library, so WinAmp can play mods as well, however, the replaying quality isn't the best.

The main disadvantage of WinAmp is that the project now is owned by AOL and that it sends info to the 'master' after installation, they claim it's anonymous. This spyware alike 'feature' can be disabled by following the installation instructions below, however we disclaim all warranties that it works!
If you don't like this behaviour skip WinAmp installation and use DeliPlayer 2, it's free of such nag.
WinAmp 2 - requirements:
Hardware Requirements:
A soundcard, minimum a fast 486 CPU, better a Pentium class CPU.

System Requirements:
Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000 or XP.

Software Requirements:
Any web browser capable of launching external apps.
WinAmp 2 v2.81 FULL or higher - Not WinAmp3!
No further plugins required.
WinAmp 2
WinAmp 2 - installation guide:
1) Download WinAmp 2 and unzip it.
2) Go offline to install WinAmp!
3) Run 'winampXXX_full.exe'. (where XXX is the version number, here: 290).
4) In the 'License agreement' window click 'I agree'.
5) In the 'Installation Options' window enable all but disable 'WinAmp Agent' and disable 'AOL Icon',
    then click 'Next'.
6) In the 'Installation Directory' window click 'Install'.
... installation now runs ...
7) In the 'Settings' window enable all and choose your internet connection correctly (LAN or Dial-Up),
    then click 'Next'.
8) Finally click 'Run WinAmp'.
... WinAmp now starts ...
9) Close the 'WinAmp Browser' window.
10) Right-click the title bar of any WinAmp window, click 'Options >> Preferences', go to 'Setup',
there disable 'Check for new versions...' and disable 'Allow WinAmp to report...' then click 'Close'.
11) Finally close WinAmp so it stores the changes.
12) Restart your browser.

WinAmp 2 - tips and tricks:
If you surf the web through a proxy you have to configure WinAmp for this proxy too:
Right-click the title bar of any WinAmp window, there click 'Options >> Preferences', there go to 'Setup' and enter your 'proxyserver:port' in the 'HTTP proxy' field.
WinAmp - known problems:
All 3rd party module plugins don't work with our site so you are stuck with the quality of the modplayer plugin which comes with WinAmp. This is because only this one plugin supports http fetching of modules, so better mod player plugins don't work, since there is no common interface for retreaving files in the plugin architecture.

WinAmp3 does not work with our site since it does not recognize online mods in playlists. It tries to open mods as MPEG streams which hammers our server so we needed to ban it, sorry.

DeliPlayer 2 - introduction:
DeliPlayer 2 is the second generation of a media player having it's roots in DeliTracker, the famous Amiga module player which supports numerous module formats. DeliPlayer grew far out of the scope of just being a mod player, but it is in fact the most sophisticated mod player available these days, with high replay quality and the most powerfull and flexible playlist of all known media players. It plays nearly all modules which we have online, and is the only player which supports the full functionality of our Music and Radio sections.
DeliPlayer 2 - requirements:
Hardware Requirements:
A soundcard, min. a Pentium class 200 MHz CPU and 64MB RAM, better a 800MHz CPU and 128MB RAM.

System Requirements:
Windows 98, ME, NT 4, 2000 or XP.
Win98 users should upgrade their DCOM.
If you don't have it already, best install the tahoma font.

Software Requirements:
Internet Explorer version 4 (???) or above, more soon...
DeliPlayer 2 RC3 (RC = Release Candidate) or higher.
DeliPlayer 2

, then click 'Save'.

18) Restart your browser.
19) Come back and Test DeliPlayer 2.
DeliPlayer 2 - tips and tricks:
If you surf the web through a proxy you have to configure DeliPlayer for this proxy too:

DeliPlayer 2 - known problems:
If you follow the above installation instruction all known problems should be phased out.

The support for Mod-Radio has just been added to DeliPlayer 2. Big thanks for an excellent cooperation goes to the DeliTeam! The Mod-Radio project is still in public beta phase, so please don't abuse the developers of DeliPlayer for things that don't work as they should. Chances are big that it's our fault, so always report Mod-Radio related problems to us first.

ModPlug Plugin - introduction:
ModPlug Plugin is a web browser plugin, allowing to embed mod music into HTML pages. It is a light version of the ModPlug Player, available from the same author. Since this plugin has to run within your web browser's environment it is optimized for low CPU consumption, at the price of replay quality. It has the lowest requirements of all online mod players, but is discontinued. :(
