The British company Hewson Consultants Ltd., simply known as Hewson, was founded in 1984 by Andrew Hewson. This firm was famous for good Spectrum games including Night Flite, Fantasia Diamond, Quest Adventure and many more. Later the company expanded its repertory to other computers and their titles were made available for a wide range of systems including the Amiga. Hewson had many international contacts and they hired programmers from Scandinavian countries and Germany too.
Their most innovative title was probably Nebulus in which you take control of a pig and climb on roting 3D towers. This game has cult status! Another pearl from them is Stormlord which is a good fantasy action platform game with nice graphics. Cybernoid and Cybernoid 2 were remarkable successes and should not be missed in any shoot 'em up collection. There were many more titles. Most of them were action based platform games or shoot 'em ups.
In the early 90's the company ran in financial problems and 21st Century became its successor. This new company was no longer specialized in action games. Instead they became famous for their pinball games. They published the all-time bestsellers Pinball Fantasies and Pinball Dreams for our favourite computer. Meanwhile this cool firm is out of business too.
To sum it up: Hewson was a company which mainly published and developed games with a high quality level. Their games won't be forgotten by their numerous fans. |
