28 Apr 2001 - Back to the Roots V2.29New stuff:
Hello everybody,
this time we'd like to introduce our update with the latest stuff from the demoscene. We have exciting news for game freaks, too, which we announce a little bit further below. We want to start with the demos, because the Mekka & Symposium, Germany's biggest demo party, was held at Easter again. As usual, it was the best and most exciting scene event of the year. Thanks to the organizers and all party people who made it possible. So if you haven't visited it this year, come to Mekka in 2002 or you'll miss a lot again.

Demos:
Tons of excellent scene stuff was released at that party. Especially many Amiga demos were totally mindblasting. So don't hesitate and download masterpieces like Perfect Circle/TBL, Amsterdam Blessings/Mawi, Adam Malysz/Ephidrena or Hotstyle Takeover/Loonies immediately. Those productions will keep you excited for days! Awesome stuff for effect and design hungry people! And we don't lie if we say that the quality of the Amiga productions have easily beaten the PC productions this year.

Of course many great PC demos were shown there, too. As usual we've selected the best productions and make them available for download here, too. Mosaik/Haujobb, Optical/Addict or Le petit prince/Kolor, which includes a fresh, good looking style, are a must see for everyone. The 64k intros Rise/Mindforce and the strange looking winner intro Art from Scoopex/Farbrausch are brilliant productions, too. Watch them all! It has been a long time ago since I (Bobic) was so excited about some demos, after coming home from a demo party.

Music:
60 new tunes are available in the scene-music section. Of course some of them were presented at the Mekka party. Most are coming from a musician called Awesome. Shame on us that we didn't know him before, because probably he's the best tracker musician which I heard during the last five years! His tunes are so brilliant, full of love and creativity. I would put him in the same league as unforgetable legends like Jester, Clawz, Jogeir and Lizardking.
In our chip-tune section we're now supporting the brilliant AHX format, too. Be prepared for a mindblasting experience with music from Pink, Jazz, Jerry and many others.
Music from the games Wonder-Dog, Botics, Ruff 'n' Tumble and some AHX tunes from PD games are available in the game-music area. We're very excited to present you two remixes of the Apidya soundtrack made by Rapture. This time our mod of the month was taken from the game-music section. Witness was composed by Ruben Monteiro. You can listen to it, when you access BTTR from the start page, after clicking on our logo.

Pictures:
Most of the new material for the pics-section was released at Mekka, too. You can find the winner pictures from Acryl and Traitor in our galleries, as well as brilliant pictures from Critkill, Visualice, JCS, Laika, Louie and many others.
The new additions to the game-pics section are coming from just three games: The brand new Turrican clone Land of Genesis, Genetic Species - which is the Half-Life for Amiga and the fantastic looking shoot'em up game Disposable Hero, which you can already download here since a while.

Games:
Finally let's come to the games section. Can you remember Carrier Command and Battle Command? Both games are excellent realtime 3D war simulations and were groundbreaking titles when they were released. Thanks to Ian Oliver, the master mind behind these games and former chief of Realtime Games, we can now offer you both masterpieces legally.
Also the friendly people from The Edge have allowed us to include their Amiga games back catalogue here on BTTR. The most interesting part of this permission is, that The Edge have aquired the rights for many old Amiga games from other software companies. Therefore we can present you even games from e.g. Anco (except Kick-Off and Co.). We'll start with the cartoon game Garfield, The Punisher and one of Bobic's favourite games back in 1988: Soldier of Light. Also Anco's shoot'em up XR-35 is available.

The next big permission, which we'd like to announce, is from the german developer Ikarion, who were specialised on economy and business simulations, while they were active on the Amiga. The first title which we can offer is the extremely rare soccer management game Hattrick!.
This games-update is completed with Scrolling Walls, a breakout game from Kingsoft, which was never seen before anywhere else in the internet and Detroit, Star Ping Pong, the swedish version of Beneath a steel sky (thanks to Pähr Andersson) and some more cool titles like Valhalla 2 - before the war from Vulcan Software. We suggest you, too, to download the demo-version of Land of Genesis. It's an excellent Turrican clone which was just released for the Amiga and which perfectly works under emulation, too. There are also some cool screenshots available from this game in our pictures section.

Emu-Tools:
Bjarke Viksoe wrote a handy program for win32 users, called ADF View shell extension. It's similar to ADF Opus and is also based on ADFLib by Laurent Clevy, but it is no standallone application. Instead it perfectly integrates ADFLib into the windoz explorer!

Web Tip:
You want to watch Amiga demos, but you don't have an Amiga any longer? Also you're not very experienced in using an emulator? Our friend Robotriot found a solution for you, now. He set up a webpage, where you can download some of the best Amiga demos in DivX format. Check out his wonderful Ami Demos project immediately. Awesome site! He already has the great Amiga demos from Mekka 2k1 online as DivX videos!

Additional notes:
The third disk from the game Leisure Suit Larry 3, which is available here, was unfortunately not completely functional. Big thanks to Andreas for providing us with a fully working disk 3. We also like to thank him very much for supporting us with tons of infos for our compatibilty database. All our databases have been updated with a few hundred new entries - have a look, please!

That's it for today. Have fun.
yours Bobic & Hippie2000
