Back to the Roots - late new year's update :)
Hello and welcome to the first BTTR update in 2002! Once again we are happy to introduce a bunch of new members in the Back to the Roots team:

Robotriot, maintainer of many sites, such as V2, Ami Demos, Organic Material Revival and Elitepigs GameDevelopment decided to join the content of his other site cd32.de into the BTTR archive, and initiated by this a new subsection in our Games section called CD-Games.
(as of V2.40 moved to CDs >> Games).

CPC464, maintainer of the handy site Amiga Emulation for Beginners, from now on hosted at BTTR, decided to join his entire games series collection into the BTTR archive. For this we created a new subsection in our Disks section called Games-Disks.

Dynamo88, those of you who know BTTR since the early days surely remember him, is back in town again to help us grow this site further, currently by adding further CD images, which are horrible huge uploads. Welcome back, Dynamo88, where have you been that long? ;-)

More to come in the next update.
This update's huge again, nearly 2000 new entries, now let's see what we have prepared for you:

We're very proud to announce another great permission. Thanks to Mr. Jason Kingsley we're now able to offer games for download, which were published by Hewson / 21st Century Entertainment, two legendary companies in the Amiga games market. Here's an overview about our latest additions:

ADF-Games:
Stormlord, a real classic in the genre of Platform-Action games and the shoot'em up game Zynaps are the first ones which we've added from Hewson. Also one game from 21st Century has been added - and it's probably the best pinball simulation ever written for the Amiga: Slam Tilt! Impressions are famous for their strategy games. Merchant Colony is a real rarity and it's online now, together with Rüsselsheim, the german version of "Detroit". Also, Links is finally available. The Amigas' best golf simulation game was made by Access Software, a sub-company of Microsoft.
We also like to mention another company, which allowed us to put one of their games online. Thanks to Hex you can now download the platform game Top Banana which features a very cute character. Recently the programmer team - which is now called PomPom - has finished a stunning PC/Mac shoot 'em up called Space Tripper.
Of course a couple of other games are online too, Impossamole or Virocop AGA, to name a few. Or Fireblaster by Paradox, which brings the good old arcade days on your Amiga screen. Rainer Bopf's Approach Trainer is a civil flight simulation which is about landing and is a good addition to the classic A320 series.

HD-Games:
Many classics from all different game genres were added as HD-versions again. Katakis, Disposable Hero, R-Type II, Jaguar XJ220, Fire and Ice, F-16 Combat Pilot or Darkmere are all well known and successful titles. Of course two games from our new supporting companies were included into this section, too: Deliverance and Zarathrusta. Both games were programmed by Peter Verswyvelen and his Whiz Kidz team.

CD-Games / CD-List:
Now here's our brand new Games related subsection: CD images, grabbed from original CDs for CD32 and/or CDTV consoles. Before you download any of these images, please read the description on our CDs section's frontpage! The first CD images which appear on BTTR are mainly coming from Core Design: Banshee CD32 is an excellent shoot'em up game whose developers Hannibal, Jade and Nuke were former members of the Amiga demoscene. They were responsible for great Amiga demos like Rink a Dink or both 3D Demo's. Premiere CD32 is another game which was coded by an ex-scener: Dan/Anarchy. And then we have Chuck Rock CD32, the legendary stoneage hero with the most dangerous weapon ever: his stomach! From Neo Software we can offer the futuristic motor-bike racer Black Viper CD32.

Demos:
Once upon a time The Party was the most famous and most respected scene event of the year. During the last years this demo-party became more and more boring for sceners, because it turned into a commercial LAN-party for gamers. The TP organizers lost their scene spirit a long time ago. Even in 2001, shortly after X-mas, it was held in Denmark again and this time it was a complete disaster. Yes, the scene doesn't like this party very much today. Very few demos were released, most in a very bad quality. There was NO Amiga demo presented. Sceners prefer to release their stuff on better parties like Assembly or Mekka & Symposium.

Luckily there was one excellent demo shown at TP. It's coming from Haujobb and is called Elements. The perfect combination of 2D/3D art, mixed together with an awesome soundtrack by Virgill makes it to one of the best PC demos in 2001 after Bobic's opinion. A few other PC demos were added as well. Especially Initialize from Nah Kolor is worth a look.

Because of the lack of new Amiga demos, we mainly added older productions to our Amiga demo archives. Nevertheless there are demos released in 2001 available. Groups like The Black Lotus, Ephidrena or Spaceballs still show what's possible on classic Amiga systems.

Tools:
Our tools section was pretty much unmaintained during the last updates, but thanks to Bernd (formerly ASO) we finally reworked it a bit. First of all, a lot of stuff for developers: With a big thank you to Mark Sibly, we are able to offer you the entire Blitz Basic series for the Amiga. Other commercial highlights are the GRAC 2 programming language, the 'must have' tool Directory Opus 4. For the graphics fans we have added the landscape generator Genesis - The third day and the animation tool Take 2.

Disks:
We created a new subsection Games-Disks, which, thanks to CPC464, starts with a few hundred additions. Besides the full Assassins PD games series (250 disks) we cann offer you 15 disks of the TBAG (Tempa Bay Amiga Group) collection of workbench playable games and 18 disks of the Games Galore AGA games collection.

Music:
A little bit above we praised Virgill for his great music for Haujobb's latest demo. If you like his music too, you should check out our music-special, where we present ALL tunes from this german musician, who's active in the scene since 1988!

Pictures:
After a short break we updated the Scene-Pics section again. Have a look at great pixel and raytracing art from Critikill, Jamon, Made and many other artists. Besides that, you can now download a bunch of new CD32 and CDTV cover scans in our Cover-Scans section, another contribution from Robotriot's cd32.de.

That's it for this update. Enjoy everything!
There's more to come soon, again it just didn't work to add all pending contributions and members at once.
