Core Design is one of the leading computer game developers in the world. This company now exists for eleven years and everyone on this planet should know their superstar, their biggest success, the most beautiful woman which the computer industry ever has seen - LARA CROFT. Lara meanwhile solved three huge and dangerous adventures in the Tomb Raider series. Tomb Raider was the first 3D Action-adventure game, which was played with a different perspective than all the other 3D games at this time. You look at Lara from behind her and this was a revolution! Together with an Indiana Jones alike gameplay, the great 3D engine, the great graphics and of course due to Lara, the entire world is still speaking about the Tomb Raider games - even if they're not interested in computer games. Lara is a cyber star now. This year at X-mas, we're awaiting the fourth part of the Tomb Raider series and the gameplay will be as exciting as in the other three parts.
Currently, Core Design works on other titles too. Ninja is a fast classic arcade action game in 3D. It plays in a land of magic and special moves. Fighting Force 64 is another beat 'em up game, also with a great 3D engine. Like in old titles as Final Fight you can choose between four different heroes and you must fight against the army of an evil person. This time this evil person is called Dr. Dex Zeng. Older PC and PSX titles from them are Thunderhawk 2 or SWIV 3D.
I think it's time now to tell you something about the history of their Amiga games. Core Design has produced some of the best Amiga games ever. Who can ever forget Rick Dangerous, this funny Platform game. I would say, that Rick Dangerous is the father of Lara Croft, because his adventures were Indiana Jones alike too - with the rolling stones and other exciting things. Later, a second part was available too as well as a few extra levels on a cover disk.
Other great platform Action games from Core Design are Wolfchild, with the brilliant music from Martin Iveson or Premiere, which was coded by DAN from Anarchy!!! Both games have an excellent intro movie and excellent ingame graphics too. And could you remember this big, beer drinking cave man? Yes - I'm speaking about Chuck Rock! His Jump 'n Run adventures are awesome, excellent ideas! Also his son has solved brilliant adventures in Chuck Rock 2. Great shoot 'em up games are Banshee, which is only made for AGA Amigas, was created by people from the demo scene too. Blastar is a good shoot 'em up, but unfortunately a very difficult one.
With Thunderhawk, Core Design released their first helicopter simulation and they also made two great adventure games: Curse of Enchantia and Universe. Both are very complex games with wonderful graphics. Together with Heimdall and Heimdall 2 they also produced great stuff for the role playing fans (like me). Darkmere is a fantastic Cadaver clone with excellent graphics and great gameplay. It's still one of my favourite games. And I think we shouldn't forget Dragon Stone, another fantasy rpg game, but this time with more action.
Well, Core Design prodouced so many excellent games for the Amiga and are still producing so many excellent games for today's computer systems and it's impossible to name all their titles here. It's better you have a look at the Core Design homepage if you're interested in more infos about this famous company. | Lara Croft
