Four Amiga games from Discovery Software can be found in our archive. Four games, which are all legendary titles. Four games, which made players excited worldwide! Four games are not much, but can you tell me any other company which has released so less, but only high quality games? Think a little bit about that... It's hard to answer, isn't it? Ok, let's look back to the first top-title:
Arkanoid: Yeeehaaaa! Time to destroy some bricks! Breakout is a classic game concept, which exists since the early coin-op days. This game brought a lot of fresh air into the dusty world of balls and paddles. You have a paddle, you have a small ball, you can see many bricks in various formations at the top of the screen. Try to hit these bricks with the ball by using the small, moveable thing below. Lots of new, exciting ideas like extras, multi-ball, guns for the paddle and much more have been added to the nostalgic game design. Together with nice graphics and brilliant music composed by Peter Johnson, Arkanoid brought the old concept into new dimensions. A legendary masterpiece!
Hybris: Another masterpiece, another legend. This vertical scrolling shoot'em up game excited players not only with its cool graphics, the new weapon system or the well designed stages. Especially the music from Paul van der Valk wrote history. It's one of the best game music, ever written. It's also interesting, that this game was created by Martin Pedersen (Code) and Torben B. Larsen (Gfx), who were both going to school, while they worked on this game.
Sword of Sodan: Swordsmen, Spikes, a little bit of magic and tough warriors - this is the fantasy world, where this game is settled. Where heroes are born. It wasn't the game design, why people couldn't close their mouthes, when they played this game. The huge sprites, the colorful, highly detailed graphics, drown by Torben B. Larsen where the reason. This game has shown the graphical power of the Amiga, like no game has shown it before. Yes, the gameplay was quite simple and boring, but the graphics stimulited enough to continue playing. The danish superstar in coding - Soren Gronbech - programmed Sword of Sodan. He was also the coder of games like Datastorm or Guldkorn Express.
Zoom: This game isn't as well known as the others, mentioned before. But it's a great game. A very addictive game of reaction in the tradition of Qix. The player has to move around quarters, to change the color of each field. This is not as easy as it sounds, because enemies are trying to block your way. This german production was released in 1988 and is still one of the best of its kind.
Discovery Software was run by Rick Ross, before Innerprise Software acquired it, including all rights for their fantastic games. Some of the scandinavian guys, who did Sword of Sodan and Hybris, joined Innerprise Software and released Battle Squadron later.
