Lankhor - Company Review (February 2000):Projects:
Lankhor, a french video games development studio located in Paris, was founded in 1987 by Jean-Luc Langlois and Daniel Macré. After releasing their first game Wanderer in 1987 for Atari ST and Sinclair QL they've released their first award winning adventure game - Morville Manor! It's a thrilling policy investigation game featuring an amazing speech system, compared to it's time. Very funny - even the german version has a nice french slang which is very atmospheric!

After this successful game, Lankhor specialised on educational titles like Troubadours, Alcantor and Rody & Mastico. Before they finished another adventure milestone - Maupiti Island - were other games like G.Nius, Elemental or the cool puzzle-shoot 'em up Outzone released.!

Then Maupiti Island was brought to life, some kind of sequel to Mortville Manor. Featuring brilliant graphics and a great, thrilling story, it has won some awards too. Again the famous speech system was used here too, but in an improved version.!

Now it was time for Lankhor to leave the adventure paths and the day came, when Vroom was released, one of the best racing simulations of it's time. Vroom is a game with a super fast 3D vector engine and a challenging gameplay and of course it was chosen to the "best racing game of the year 1991". Two years later it was also converted as F1 to the Sega Genesis console.!

In 1994 Lankhor released the mystery game Black Sect and in 1995 Kawasaki Superbikes, a motorcycle game for Sega Genesis. Then it became silent around Lankhor for a few years, but of course they weren't lazy. A new racing simulation was in the pipeline and after signing up a contract with Eidos Interactive the Official Formula 1 Racing was released in 1999 and featured the official FIA license from the 1998 season. It's now converted to the Playstation as F1 World Grand Prix.!

I'm very curious to see what's coming next from Lankhor. I'm sure we can expect a new highlight in the racing sector soon, as Lankhor has gained much experience in this genre since the release of Vroom for the Amiga. As always you'll find the latest infos about their current projects at the Lankhor website together with more interesting information.
