Soft Enterprises - Company Review:Projects:
In 1992 Bjoern Heussner, Klaus Stenzel and two friends have found Soft Enterprises. Their first released game was called Brain Artifice and was an addictive puzzle game with - believe it or not - 500 (!) levels. After the successful release of this game for Amiga, C-64 and PC, another puzzle game was ready to be released for Amiga. Its title: Cube-X. Like in the excellent coin-op game "Puzznic", you have to destroy pairs of stones. Still a competing game! But at this time, the Amiga market already started to die and therefore this game never hit the shelves.

After some dark months with various projects in development which, unfortunately, never have been completed, nobody of the Soft Enterprises crew knew, if they will be able to create games in the future. With the huge success of 3D-Action games like Wolfenstein 3D, an idea came up to their minds in 1994. They wanted to create their own 3D-shooter. The Hidden Below was born and with this title Soft Enterprises survived in the gaming industry.

Another action game was Project Paradise. The perspective in this game was very unique with its topview 360° rotating 3D engine. Even the press was surprised about the quality of this game with all those great features and it became a big success. The other products which followed were racing games. Battle Race was a mixture of F-Zero and Rock'n Roll Racing (both SNES titles), but in full 3D. Whacky Wheelz was heavily inspired by Super Mario Kart, another SNES game.

A few years later - in 1999 - this company gone back to their roots and created another 3D-action game: Skout. The self developed 3D-engine still brings colorful and fast paced action onto the screens in a quality like the famous "Quake 2"-engine. Very interesting is the game design. You can use a drone to manipulate switches and force fields who are not reachable for the player. Fragging enemies is your main job in this game, but without using your brain and playing around with the drone, you won't be able to be a successor.

Their latest games have been released in 2001. The first is called Explomän. It's similar to the alltime classic Bomberman, but brings the explosive action into the 3rd dimension. This little gem is full of unique features which will fascinate you and your friends for a long time. Oil Tycoon follows the steps of the famous Oil Imperium (english title: Black Gold) game. Of course it's much more complex and contains lots of new additional features than the 12 year old Amiga classic.

Soft Enterprises are still busy with creating new games. Currently in development is Arena, which looks very promising. You know Unreal Tournament, don't you? Then you know what you can expect from this game. The graphic routines are impressive, the game design will be as addictive as in the game from Epic Megagames. Watch out for Arena - this could be a killer game.
