The Newcastle upon Tyne based company Tynesoft started as a entertainment software publisher for meanwhile antique computer systems such as the BBC Micro and Commodore Plus 4. They were quite successful doing so and they had a considerable amount of awarding software released. For example Auf Wiedersehen Pet was one of their first games and plays in the area of Castle Neuschwanstein in Bavaria. In Future Shock - an adventure - you take control of a small bouncing object solving the usual puzzles you would expect from an adventure game, but the idea was new at this time. The company also did 8 bit conversions for the classic First Star Software games like Boulderdash and Spy vs. Spy. Probably these were some of the most lucrative products for them.
But Tynesoft is mainly known for their sports games. Their huge sports series started on 8 Bit computers. At the same time or a bit later enormously enhanced 16 Bit versions were released too. Here Winter Games 88 and Summer Games 88 have to be mentioned. Based on a similar principle as Epyx's The Games series, however, Tynesoft's games have better graphics and some events are more playable than in the certainly more famous Epyx titles. Also Buffalo Bill's Rodeo Games and Circus Games are some sort of sports games, but do not feature classical sport events. The Buffalo Show is about bull riding, trick shooting, knife throwing and some more contests. In the Circus game you can prove your skills in tiger dressage, trapeze and a number of other things. Both games have wonderful artwork drew by Paul Drummond who was later responsible for classics such as Simon the Sorcerer.
After the 16 Bit rush Tynesoft left the software market. A lot of misleading information stating that Tynesoft has ceased activities has to be corrected. Now they are still active as a firm, but in another field. They now offer various business services, e.g. attaching stamps and professional copying.
